Georgina Thomson Building Project

Georgina Thomson was a woman ahead of her time, university educated and focused on her professional life, she was a pioneer and lifelong advocate of the Calgary Public Library. Library patrons  lovingly called her the 'Answer Lady' long before there was internet because of her vast knowledge and ability to find any information one was looking for. The building this project was called to honour was named after Georgina Thomson and served as a beloved public library in the neighbourhood for many years from 1965-2003

The call for submissions for this project required community engagement as part of the creative process. Compelled to work in a larger scale and with my interest in community development I submitted an application. I proposed calling on community members and past library patrons to share their stories and memories of that place. These stories became the backbone for the project reflected in the large wallpiece that lives inside the building and also on the bookcase and benches in the Free Little Library Book exchange area.

Completed October 2015 for the City of Calgary. Click here for more info.
